Design features and ratings are in accordance with, or exceed, the minimum requirements of AGMA (American Gear Manufacturers Association).
Castings are rigidly designed and constructed to absorb internal and external loads with minimum deflection. Gear case and bearing housings are manufactured to assure permanent alignment of bearings and gears under load. All casting materials are gray iron for effective damping of noise and vibration. All mating castings are sealed using “formed-in-place” gasket material which eliminates “weeping” associated with fiber-type gaskets.
Designed and manufactured by Amarillo Gear Company for smooth and quiet operation. All spiral gears are precision machined from nickel alloy steel, case hardened, and lapped in pairs.
All bearings are roller-type supplied by major manufacturers. The upper thrust bearing is designed to carry all loads imposed by the pump. All bearings are sized to meet or exceed the minimum life requirements of AGMA.
Quiet operation of the Amarillo gear drive is achieved through careful design and controlled manufacturing methods of components. Our engineers understand all the many parameters that effect gear noise and have applied the latest research to the design and manufacture of all components. Parameters that reduce gear noise are controlled during design, manufacturing, and assembly to ensure quiet operation. Rigid shafts are permanently aligned in their housings guaranteeing alignment of the gears under load. Test results collected in our state-of-the-art test facility support that our sound levels are the lowest available in the industry.
Input shaft openings have spring-loaded, single-lip seals to keep outside contamination from entering the gear drive. The output shaft is sealed using a dry-well design.
All shafts are amply sized to provide a rugged spindle for the pump and gears. Surfaces for gears, bearings, and input coupling are precision ground.
A forced fed lubrication system uses an oil screw mounted on the bottom of the vertical shaft to supply lubricant to all bearings and gears. An oil manifold, oil lines, and internal passages assure that lubricant is supplied to all components at the correct location and volume. On many models, lubricant is cooled using fresh water which flows through internal finned copper cooling coils. External heat exchangers for fresh water and other fluids are available as optional equipment.
A large inspection plate is easily removed for easy periodic inspections. Ports for oil fill and oil drain are tapped and located for ease of use.
Solid vertical shafts, heavy thrust options, combination designs, and marine package, are options that are available on most small right angle pump drives.
