In 1934, Amarillo Gear Company began designing and manufacturing right angle gear drives using spiral bevel gears. Our commitment then, as now, is excellence in design, workmanship, and reliability. The worldwide acceptance of our drives testifies to our ability to live up to this commitment. We currently offer the largest selection of right angle pump drives available from a single manufacturer in the world.
Designed and manufactured by Amarillo Gear Company for smooth and quiet operation. All spiral bevel gears are precision machined from nickel alloy steel, case hardened, and lapped in pairs. Optimum tooth contact and maximum performance is ensured by computer aided design and strict adherence to the latest AGMA (American Gear Manufacturers Association) standards.
Maximum reliability is assured through exclusive use of bearings from leading bearing manufacturers and by only selecting bearings that meet or exceed the AGMA minimum recommended design life. The upper thrust bearing is designed to carry all loads imposed by the pump. Three thrust bearing arrangements (Standard, Heavy, and Extra Heavy) are offered on each model to ensure that the proper bearing is available for even the most unusual application.
Castings are rigidly designed and constructed to absorb internal and external loads with minimum deflection. Gear case and bearing housings are manufactured to assure precise and permanent alignment of bearings and gears under load. All casting materials are gray iron for effective damping of noise and vibration. All mating castings are sealed using “formed-in-place” gasket material which eliminates “weeping” associated with fiber-type gaskets.
All shafts are made from alloy steel and are amply sized to provide a rugged spindle for the pump and gears. Surfaces for gears, bearings, and input coupling are precision ground.
Amarillo Gear Company was an early pioneer in the use and perfection of this unique sealing arrangement which provides maximum protection against output shaft leakage.
For models 450A to 1000G, a force fed lubrication system uses an oil screw mounted on the bottom of the vertical shaft to supply lubricant to all bearings and gears. On models sized 1000A and larger, cooled and filtered oil is delivered under pressure by a gear driven positive displacement oil pump. An oil manifold, oil lines, and internal passages assure that lubricant is supplied to all components at the correct location and volume. On many models, lubricant is cooled using fresh water which flows through external heat exchanger. External heat exchangers for marine applications are also available.
Efficiency varies with speed, power, and thrust. Normal ranges are 96-98% efficient. Contact factory for actual values for your application.
